Another slow start morning , rare for us. Breakfast was not until 9 and it was wonderful to sit in the garden area and just appreciate God's goodness to us, in a restful QUIET nights rest, the birds singing and a delicious breakfast.
At 10 we went into town to return again to the Prison Commission facility headquarters where we met with Pastor Greggory outside and the Deputy Commissioner's assistant ??????, inside who greeted us now with a broad smile before we went through the final checkpoint and ushered us into the Deputy Commissioner's office taking the big chair behind the desk while telling us, "When the commissioner is absent I sit in her chair." Entering the prison facility now is much different that our entrance a few days ago.
Working with the Uganda Prison Commission has been quite different from working with the one in ......... as Uganda has been willing to work with what we have to offer opposed to requiring specifics to do prison ministry. When we were here a few days ago we were asked to contribute something in addition to the Bibles and Discipleship booklets that they also deem as valuable. We were asked "if" we could contribute something for the prisoners in the way of blankets? I told them the amount of money I could contribute and they were happy with IRM's efforts.
Today it was decided that Pastor Geoffrey, with our cash donation, would accompany Assistant ????? to purchase the blankets who said after the purchase they, along with the prison vehicle, would bring them to where we are staying. God's provision that we did not have to hire a pickup to deliver them to us.
We needed to stop on our return to purchase bread for our Peanut Butter sandwich lunch and gift bags for the wardens gifts as mine were stolen with the other supplies at the IRM office in Rwanda. We arrived shortly before the prison vehicle, blankets, Assistant ???? and Pastor Geoffrey arrived. This purchase took SO MUCH LESS TIME than the purchase before we came here do to Assistant ????? who knew just where to procure the blankets. For the money we contributed they were able to procure 150 blankets in 5 bundles. When we deliver the Bibles we will also deliver 3 bundles to one prison and 2 bundles to another prison at the direction of this Prison Administration. The ease with which these blankets were purchased is a testimony to the administration here.
There was no time for a sit-down sandwich so I made everyone a sandwich before they went in 3 directions to accomplish further errands directed by Alfred. Geoffrey had his task and Pastor Aaron was to rent a pickup for him and Alfred to drive tomorrow as we deliver Bibles, Booklets and blankets to the prisons we will be visiting. It's great that Alfred can spell Aaron with the driving and the bantering these long time friends give each other makes all the team laugh. Alfred took our van to go back into town to pick up the printery that informed us this afternoon would be ready at 5 instead of 4.
I opted to stay behind as I developed a headache and its cooler in my unconditioned room than sitting in a hot van waiting and I get to run our sound system with Rwandan & Ugandan praise/worship music as I rest! Good thing it has a great battery as the electricity in my room outlet only has been out so no charging the system, video camera or regular camera batteries.
Photos for yesterday thanks for the WiFi that is working in the Reception area:
