Ministry Partners,
Today has been a very interesting day. We woke to our last day in Kenya.
I had this blog over half written when it disappeared from the page and I could not retrieve it so I have determined in the future to write it in a Word doc. then copy/paste it into the blog.
After breakfast, we headed to the prison where we were by God provision we allowed to do two crusades, one for 1,200 men and one for 41 women. I had such compassion for the men who were sitting in the sun while I had some shade from the roof overhang of a building. The O.C. had given me 1 ½ hours for each group and I used every minute. No matter how tired I am, I never get tired of hearing the prisoners beautiful, powerful voices praying to receive Jesus as their Savior. I generally handle the heat pretty well but I have noticed it a lot this trip.
It was not far to the Uganda border and Alfred did such a good job getting us through that we did not have to pay someone to help us. This time the crossing ONLY cost us $400 this time.
We drove a short distance and found a prison alongside the road that I had never been to. Alfred, who has a special gift of engaging the guards and O.C.s talked to the Social Affairs Officer. And after seeing that we were visiting other Uganda prisons with the Commissioners signed letter he agreed to letting us hold a crusade in his prison. He brought in a women guard with 13 women who sat on a bench against the wall on my left. And he gave me all the time I needed to speak to the 780 men. It was great that we all inside and out of the sun. I had the choice of doing this prison tomorrow but since it was a Farm Prison, I knew many would not be there tomorrow because they would be out farming. Doing three crusades in one day would generally not be my first choice but it was today.
God is blessing us and giving us additional prisons for the prisons we were unable to visit in Tanzania.
At testimony
time one woman said "Your message has also touched me, I have held a few people in anger and today, I have chosen to set them free. Thank you for such wonderful message. My life is now changed."
The Social Affairs
Officer said, "last week she was caught stealing and I had to write a statement that would increase her sentence. After today, I am going to black-out that statement in her file and it will be forgiven forever"
Arlene & the Social Affairs Officer
He was so impressed that he wanted to introduce us to the O.C. at the next prison a 30 min. drive away. After the introduction, the new O.C. approved for us to return tomorrow for a crusade. On the spot approval to hold crusades in prisons is unheard of but we are watching God open doors for us so the we might share the precious love of Jesus.
Then the O.C. and Social Affairs officer got in our van to help us find a place to stay. We are in a very desolate area and we saw nothing as we drove along. The first place they took us to did not have toilets but had an annex so we found 3 rooms there but none with running water. A jerry can will provide enough water to flush the toilet and bath with. I am thankful there is a mosquito net and there is electricity for the personal Wi-Fi I have.
Dinner has been ordered and whatever it is I am too tired to critique …… don’t hold me to that.
It has been a wonderful Sunday but I am tired so goodnight.
Please continue to pray for the prisoners and us.
That none would be lost,
Arlene
